Distributor selection.

A fundamental step between fibres and tights is the distributor, i.e. the middle man between tights and stockings manufacturers and fibres and yarns manufacturers. The many distributors on the market release the products of the two market leaders in the nylon sector - Invista's Tactel and Nylstar's Meryl - and the elastan produced by Invista - Lycra

Yarn selection NYLON

Nylon is nowadays produced and marketed by a lot of companies. At the beginning of the 90s, the nylon industry underwent a profound reorganisation.
Invista absorbed the British Ici, while the Italian SNIA and the French Rhone-Poulenc joined together in Nylstar joint venture. With regards to hosiery, Nylstar, with its Meryl mark, and Invista, with its Tactel mark, hold the main market share in Europe.

SILK
Silk is used in luxury women hosiery, but only combined with other yarns, due to its limited elasticity.

ELASTANE

Invista's Lycra and Bayer's Dorlastan are the most used elastomers.

COTTON

WOOL

Wool is used in winter hosiery, blended with a low percentage of elastomeric fibres. Ennoblement provides it with characteristics such as water repellence, no-shrink and moth and mildew resistance

Oeko-Tex® Standard 100
It is a unified control and certification system for all the textile world, from raw material, to semifinished products, to end products throughout all the processing phases. Controls on noxious substances include: substances which are regulated and prohibited by law, chemical products known to be health hazards and parameters to safeguard health. Manufacturers can chose whether to label the successfully analysed products, or group of articles, with Oeko-Tex® mark, or to promote them in other ways, provided that it has been proved, through complete laboratory tests, that all the components and accessories meet, without exception, the required control criteria. The issued certificate is valid for a year and can be renewed each time it is required.
